Dance Hub, Birmingham is an ambitious sector led initiative to support the region’s position as an international centre of excellence for dance. It builds upon the exceptional existing dance ecology of production, performance and community and learning activities delivered by Birmingham Royal Ballet, the International Dance Festival Birmingham, DanceXchange and a thriving community of independent dance organisations, artists and producers., The Director will work closely with an industry led steering group under the auspices of Culture Central.
Culture Central is a new collective voice and development organisation for culture in the Birmingham City region. Culture Central is an open membership body representing and working on behalf of all of Birmingham’s arts organisations, practitioners, agencies and organisations engaged in the cultural sector. Culture Central’s ambition is to raise the profile of the city’s world class culture and to build upon the considerable successes already achieved through cultural bodies working collaboratively.
As Director you will lead the development of Birmingham’s Dance Hub, an ambitious sector initiative to support the region’s plans to be an international centre of excellence for dance. This is a highly collaborative project that will involve working extensively with the dance sector to initiate, develop and deliver a wide range of projects that will create an ongoing portfolio of activity.
You will lead on the development of the Dance Hub’s business plan and commissioning framework, as well as plans for shared usage of rehearsal and studio space. You will take responsibility for procuring freelance services and for negotiating contractual arrangements with organisations and artists to fulfil commissioned projects.
To succeed you must be a genuine collaborator with a track record of partnership working. You will be able to demonstrate outstanding leadership skills combining confidence and personal authority with an ability to facilitate collective decision-making. Your experience will include developing a fund-raising strategy and delivering financial planning and analysis. An effective project manager, you will be a strong communicator and negotiator who is comfortable producing contracts and analytical reports. Naturally you will have a good understanding of the issues facing the small- medium scale dance sector and dance audience development in the Midlands.
