Bristol Old Vic’s £2.4m Heritage Lottery Fund award paves the way for the Theatre’s story to be told in new and exciting ways.

The HLF investment will fund the refurbishment of the historic Coopers’ Hall, enable the reveal of the original 1766 theatre façade, and ensure that the Thunder Run is both accessible to the public and fit for future use.

The grant will also provide for a substantial programme of conservation, cataloguing and digitisation of the theatre’s archives, which are held between the University of Bristol Theatre Collection and Bristol Archives.

Furthermore, the development of a new digital platform, the installation of new heritage interpretation and interactive exhibitions at the theatre, and a wide reaching programme of tours and activities will ensure that Bristol Old Vic, already recognised as a centre for artistic excellence, will also become an internationally significant heritage destination, reaching new audiences from Bristol and beyond.

At this exciting time, we are recruiting for the new post of Heritage Engagement Manager to lead on, develop and deliver the Activity Plan for the Project, and to play a key role at this pivotal moment in embedding the sustained use of heritage across the organisation into the future.

The Heritage Engagement Manager will report directly to the Engagement Director and will be responsible for a small team of freelance staff and volunteers.

This post is funded for a fixed term of three years (Sept 2017 – Sept 2020).
