Arts Council England is launching a new fund devised to give individual artists tinme tobe creative rather than funding organisations.

The Developing Your Creative Practice will be worth £14.4m over three years. Individuals will be able to apply for grants from £2,000 to £10.000 from April 12.

“Every person needs time to breathe, to broaden their experience and to develop their ideas” said ACE chairman Sir Nicholas Serota. “We want all our arts organisations to continue to commission and present new work from a diverse range of artists, but we also need to invest in the future.”

The scheme has been developed as a result of consultations and reviews. Applicants will come from a broad range of practitioners, including, dancers, writers, producers, musicians, actors, designers and curators. They will not need matching funding, nor to show public benefit from their projects.

“This fund will give creative talent of different ages from different backgrounds time and the backing that they need to hone their work and explore new paths” Serota said. “Nurturing talent and supporting careers at a critical moment is a small investment that will help sustain our world-class cultural sector for years to come.”
