Tobacco Factory picks Caws
Mary Caws is to be executive director of Tobacco Factory Theatres in Bristol from August 1.
Formerly executive director at Queens Theatre, Hornchurch, Stratford Theatre Royal and Watford Place Theatre, Caws takes over from Laura Scholey who is leaving.
She will be working alongside artistic director Mike Tweddle. “She joins us as we embark on an ambitious new chapter in the organisation’s life – with two world-class theatre spaces at the centre of a reimagined building that will open its doors to new audiences and offer powerful opportunities to local communities” he said. “I have no doubt that Mary’s passion, experience and leadership will enable us to achieve our aspirations in powerful and sustainable ways”.
The new chapter includes the opening of the new Spielman Theatre in October, an 84-seat studio theatre, part of a £1.5m redevelopment.
“I am relishing the opportunity to build on the inspiring achievements of this organisation” Caws said “and look forward to working with the team on the opportunities across programming, audiences and community engagement that are unlocked by the opening of the new studio theatre.”
