Audiobook company to produce new theatre
Audiobook giant Audible is to produce live theatre in the UK.
The Amazon owned company is producing a one-woman show On the Exhale, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, in conjunction with theatre company China Plate.
It will be the first of a number of one-person shows as the company appoints a new head of theatre.
Audible has already produced a number of theatre shows in New York’s Minetta Lane theatre, including the US transfer of the Royal Court’s Girls and Boys, starring Carey Mulligan.
The plans were revealed at an event marking the launch of the company’s new partnership wiith the LAMDA theatre school, which help train performers in audio drama. The partnership, worth £150,000 will support students with fees and training.
Following its run at the Edinburgh Fringe, On the Exhale will be recorded at Audible’s studios and made available for download.
Audible has also recently launched a £3.6 million investment in new writing for audio plays.
