Stubbs to leave FACT
Director steps down on Merseyside after 11 years.
Mike Stubbs is to leave FACT – Liverpool’s Foundation or Art and Creative Technology – after 11 years as its director and CEO.
During his time there FACT has developed an international reputation for presenting new media and digital art in particular
He arrived in 2008 during the city’s record-breaking year as European Capital of Culture. “After 11 years I am leaving to focus on my own creative practice as an artist and pick up new opportunities as a programmer and advisor” he said. “This week, my new show Strata - Rock - Dust – Stars comes to fruition and opens at York Art Gallery as the main exhibition for the inaugural York Mediale. I leave with great pride and wish all the staff, associate artists and the institution itself, amazing new journeys to new horizons.”
Since 2008 FACT has linked Liverpool and many cities with such notable partnerships and initiatives in as the Abandon Normal Devices (AND) Festival, the European Media Art Platform and Connecting Cities (EU), and the Collide art science residency programme with Arts at CERN, Geneva.
He also initiatedVeterans in Practice, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, which gave former soldiers the opportunity to unleash artistic and storytelling skills to help them deal with their experiences, which changed lives.
Matthew Brown, head of the Adding Value Consultancy and a long-time partner with FACT, will act as interim managing director until a successor is appointed.
