Finch leaves Harris for Bristol
Jon Finch is leaving his role as head of culture at the Harris Museum, Preston, after three years to take up a post as head of culture at Bristol Council.
He will have responsibility for the city council’s six museum and archive sites as well as responsibility for arts and events.
Finch started at the Harris Museum in 2015 where he was jointly employed by Preston Council and Lancashire County Council. He led the Re-Imagining the Harris project, which involved a major, unsuccessful, bid to win funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund. However, he also secured National Portfolio status for the museum from Arts Council England and significantly increased visitor numbers and income.
Previously he had worked in Australia as a cultural consultant.
Finch begins at Bristol in November, where he succeeds Laura Pye, who leaves the city to take up the role as director of National Museums Liverpool.
Recruitment for an interim replacement for Finch is under way, says Preston Council.
