Arts jobs up, says ONS

The number of jobs in the arts has increased by 4% in the past year, according to the Office of National Statistics.

 

Figures show that  976,000 people now work in the arts, entertainment and recreation industry sector, which includes the performing arts, but also covers people working in heritage, gambling and betting, and fitness and leisure facilities.

The data from the Office of National Statistics also shows that 460,000 people were working in artistic, literary and media jobs, including 77,000 authors and writers and 19,000 choreographers.

The latest figures also suggested that the number of vacancies in the industry has risen by 7.8% in the past year. There are now an estimated 18,000 job vacancies within the sector.
