BBC chief goes to Manchester’s Factory
Jenny Baxter is the first major appointment Manchester’s new £110m cutting-edge multi-arts venue, Factory.
Baxter, the current chief operating officer for BBC England, will take over as project director in the autumn. She is the former controller of BBC News Production. Baxter joined the BBC 30 years ago and in previous roles led BBC News' move to MediaCityUK . Before that, she was BBC Foreign Editor and the BBC's first Live News Editor.
"The Factory will showcase world-class creativity in the heart of this region and I am thrilled to be appointed to lead its development,” said Baxter. “It will be a stunning building that is going to make a key contribution to the UK's ambitious cultural future."
Leader of Manchester City Council, Sir Richard Leese, said he was very pleased to 'have secured such a creative, experienced leader' for the project.
The news follows the appointment of prize-winning Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas – to design the new building, which is scheduled to open in 2019.
