Solicari to head Geffrye

Written on .

Sonia Solicari, the head of the Guildhall Art Gallery in London, is to be the next director of the Geffrye Museum.

She will succeed David Dewing who retires after 25 years in the post at the end of the year, having transformed and expanded the Geffrye, set in former East End almshouses, into the Museum of the Home. The new director will lead the museum through a further £15m capital development which is expected to be completed in 2019.

“The Geffrye has a universal appeal” Solicari said. “I have been a visitor to the museum for many years, and have been consistently inspired by its wonderful collections and ground-breaking exhibitions. This long acquaintance makes me especially excited to be leading the museum at this transformative moment in its history. Unlocking the Geffrye will create incredible new opportunities for the museum, and I look forward to working with the rest of the staff to inspire current and future generations of visitors.”
