Donmar’s ground breaking O’Rourke-Pakenham partnership ends

Josie Rourke (left) has announced her departure from the Donmar Warehouse, where she has been artistic director since 2012.

She will leave in 2019, while executive producer Kate Pakenham stands down this June.

They were the first female partnership to run a theatre, and productions during their tenure included Tom Hiddleson’s Coriolanus, The Vote with Judi Dench, and the all-female Shakespeare trilogy starring Harriet Walter and directed by Phyllida Lloyd. The pair received an Olivier Award for Rourke’s revival of the musical, City of Angels (2014).

O’Rourke is currently in post-production on her first feature film, Mary Queen of Scots, due for release in November.
