Dulwich to get a Colour Palace

Dulwich Picture Gallery in South London is to get a “Colour Palace” for its gardens next summer.

A competition to design a pavilion for the grounds of the John Soane designed gallery has been won by Pricegore and Yinka Ilory to be erected during the 2019 London Festival of Architecture.

The Colour Palace draws on European and African cultural traditions, representing multi-cultural London.

The architectural practice Pricegore – Dingle Price and Alex Gore – based in nearby Peckham collaborated with artist Yink Ilori who specialises in blending traditional Nigerian and contemporary design.

“This innovative, colourful space will act as a beacon of creativity and inclusion for visitors of all ages and backgrounds” said the gallery’s director, Jennifer Scott, and Tamsie Thomson, director of the festival, added: “At the London Festival of Architecture we revel in the unexpected, and I can’t wait to start working with Pricegore and Yinka Ilori to bring a little bit of Lagos to Dulwich.”
