O’Riordan to take over at Lyric Hammersmith

Rachel O’Riordan, artistic director of the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, since 2014, is to be the new chief of the Lyric Hammersmith.

She takes over as artistic director from Sean Holmes who steps down next month. O’Riordan, who will also become joint chief executive with executive director Sian Alexander, will join the Lyric in February.

O’Riordan, who steered the Sherman to winning the regional theatre category in the Stage Awards this year, previously ran the Perth Theatre in Scotland and before that he Ransom Theatre Company in Northern Ireland.

“The Lyric Hammersmith is one of the most exciting theatres in London” she said. “It occupies a special place in the theatre ecology; egalitarian, open and bold. I am looking forward to continuing the theatre's journey and leading a new phase of artistic evolution, working alongside Sian Alexander and the Lyric team.”
