Firth steps down as leader at LBT

Victoria Firth is stepping down from the role of director and chief executive of the Huddersfield’s Lawrence Batley Theatre, after 11 years in post.

Firth is credited with turning around the theatre’s fortunes and successfully stewarding the organisation through a difficult financial period. In 2013 she also led the Kirklees district bid for funds from Arts Council England’s Creative People and Place, bringing £3million of new investment into the area.

The move follows Firth’s decision to start making her own work. Her show, How to be Amazingly Happy!, was at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year.

Karen O’Neill the current Deputy Director and recent Clore Leadership fellow, will take over as interim boss while the Board undertake an appointment process. Firth will remain as part of the creative team at LBT, however, in a part time role as associate director, helping to enable strategic partnerships.
