Clare O'Brien to run Mall Galleries

Clare O’Brien, director of Chiswick House, is to be the Mall Galleries’ new chief executive.

She will take over from Lewis McNaught in January, having doubled the turnover Grade I listed Palladian house and 65 acres of gardens in three years. Prior to Chiswick House she was director of development at the Wallace Collection for 12 years.

The Mall Galleries is the home of the Federation of British Artists, the eight art societies which include the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal Society of British Painters.

It has exhibitions for them and also commercial shows the year round, but has been transformed over the last decade under McNaught to attract more visitors, eye-catching exhibitions and events, and putting the institution on a firm financial footing.

“I very much look forward to building upon Lewis McNaught’s excellent work in developing their reputation and national and international reach to further the standing of British art and artists” O’Brien said.
