Dobson swaps Tyneside for Manchester

Mark Dobson is the new executive director at Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.  He joins the organisation from his role as chief executive of the historic Tyneside Cinema.

Mark Dobson will take over from the current executive director Fiona Gasper at the beginning of July. Dobson worked for ten years in senior management roles at Northern Stage in Newcastle before joining Tyneside Cinema as its first Chief Executive in 2000.  

Kneehigh has announced the appointment of Ali Robertson as the company’s new executive producer.  Robertson will take up the position in June taking over from Paul Crewes, who, after 10 years with Kneehigh becomes artistic director of the Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts (aka The Wallis) in Los Angeles.  Robertson has been Director of Tobacco Factory Theatres since August 2007.  Prior to working in Bristol, he ran the Cork Midsummer Festival for four years.

Southbank Centre has appointed Bengi Ünsal as senior contemporary music programmer, leaving her previous role as director of Salon at the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV). She will lead on programming Southbank Centre’s wider gigs programme, including the arts centre’s hallmark contemporary music festival, Meltdown.  

Jo Ditch has been appointed as venue director for Watford Colosseum. She joins Watford Colosseum from the Grove Theatre, Dunstable, where she worked for over a decade after a spell as manager of Trafalgar Studios and the Phoenix Theatre in London’s Charing Cross Road, as well as the Empire Theatre in Liverpool.
