Green light for £35.5m NPG extension

City planners have approved the National Portrait Gallery’s biggest development since it opened in 1896.

Westminster Council have given planning permission and listed building consent for the £35.5m project, entitled Inspiring People, which will include a new entrance as well as refurbishment and restoration.

The gallery has already raised £31.5m and work is expected to begin in summer, 2020.
