Lottery support for Northern arts organisations

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is backing a new scheme, to be run by Creative United, help cultural organisations in the North with business advice.

Prosper North will provide business support to around 80 organisations over the next three years. They will include music venues to community art groups, independent museums and literature festivals.

The programme is run by Creative United and social investment organisation Key Fund and is a part of the Northern Cultural Regeneration Fund (NCRF),

Between May 2019 and May 2021, 3 cohorts of participants will take part in a series of workshops on subjects such as business modeling, social investment and change management, and one-to-one business advice.

Creative United has organised a series of other arts and business-related programmes for arts organisations in the past, including a national Prosper scheme for libraries and museums.

Sarah Thirtle, Director of Business Support Programmes at Creative United, said:

“We know that the current economic climate is challenging. What with the withdrawing of local authority funding, the competition for grants, squeeze on household budgets affecting audience spending and reliance on volunteer workforces, many cultural and heritage organisations can struggle to find ways to remain open, let alone plan for future growth and impact.

“Prosper North will offer training and guidance – and importantly the space for reflection with a trusted business advisor – for the local heroes running these organisations. They will strengthen their business plans and explore how to make the most of the value in their assets and teams. Our support will open up ways to improve enterprise and help organisations get to grips with how social investment from the Northern Cultural Regeneration Fund could unlock a prosperous future for them which benefits their communities.”
