Jasper leaves as YDE chief

Youth Dance England director Linda Jasper is leaving her post at the end of this month after 12 years in charge.

Jasper’s departure follows the resignation of the Dance UK director and comes as Youth Dance England and Dance UK merge to create a new industry body One Dance UK in April. Andrew Hurst has been chosen as the first chief executive of One Dance UK.

The new organisation will also incorporate the National Dance Teachers Association and the Association of Dance of the African Diaspora, to create "a single, more powerful voice for dance" in the UK.

Jasper said her time leading Youth Dance England which she founded in 2004 had been "a real joy".

"It has been a remarkable 12 years setting up a new organisation, from scratch, to address the brief from Arts Council England and the Department for Education to improve dance opportunities for children and young people across the country," she added.

Richard Alston, chair of Youth Dance England, said: "Linda is a one-off and she has changed the face of dance for young people in this country. We have so many reasons to be grateful."
