Bradford enters 2025 City of Culture race

Bradford is the latest entrant to the competition to be UK City of Culture in 2025.

The city joins Luton, Southampton, Tees Valley, Medway and Lancashire as potential titleholders for the coveted award, which will be announced in December 2021.

The bid will be organised by the city’s Cultural Place Partnership, which includes Bradford Council, the University of Bradford, Bradford College and live arts company the Brick Box.

Detailed plans will be unveiled when the official bid is launched in late September.

Susan Hinchcliffe, leader of Bradford Council and chair of the Cultural Place Partnership, said: "If the bid is successful it would be of benefit for every corner of the district; it would be really exciting". Rosie Freeman, director of the Brick Box, added: "I think it would create greater community engagement and cohesion across the whole district. “

The UK City of Culture is awarded every four years. So far there have been three UK Cities of Culture, Derry/Londonderry, Hull and Coventry, which will be City of Culture in 2021.
