Liz Johnson is Midlands museums guru

Liz Johnson is moving from the National Trust to fill a new Arts Council role as director of museums collection development for the West Midlands.

Based in ACE’s Birmingham office, Johnson will be part of the new museums, collections and cultural property team led by Kate Bellamy, which will provide strategic leadership as services and functions are modernised.

“It will be invaluable to have someone else with extensive museums experience as a member of our leadership team” Bellamy said. “Liz also brings a deep understanding of the work we do in the Midlands in her dual role.”

Johnson had previously been a senior project manager leading on the Arts Council’s response to the Mendoza Review of Museums of 2017 which made recommendations about museums development and operation.

Starting in April she will be supporting museums as well as working across projects such as Coventry City of Culture 2021 and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham during 2022.
