Francesca Hewitt to raise £50m for Courtauld

Francesca Hewitt, currently a director of the Philanthropy Company, is to be the Courtauld Institute’s new director of development, tasked with raising £50m for art institute’s most ambitious development in its history.

The development programme, Courtauld Connects, will transform the gallery and conservation department into a new learning centre, improve accessibility, add a new temporary exhibition space and restore its historic Great Room. The gallery, currently closed for the transformation work, is expected to reopen in spring 2021.

Hewitt, who as the Ashmolean’s head of development raised £50m to create its endowment fund, will work closely with Tzo Zen Ang who was last month appointed the Courtauld’s first managing director.
