Showroom’s new director is Gabriela Salgado

Argentina-born Gabriela Salgado is the new director of the Showroom, the London gallery that specialises on experimental collaborations.

A specialist in the art of Latin America, Africa, Oceania and South East Asia, she was artistic director of Te Tuhi Contemporary Art in Aotearoa, New Zealand, from 2017 to 2020. As an independent curator and consultant Salgado has directed Transatlantic Connections, a long-term programme of collaborations between African and Latin American artists.

“I have followed The Showroom’s programme with interest over the years and am excited to contribute to its remarkable history” she said. “Its experimental and inclusive vocation particularly attracts me. I envisage a programme that will echo the challenges of our times, offer valuable opportunities for artists and audiences, and extend The Showroom’s reputation.”

The Showroom was established in 1983 and so celebrates its 40th birthday in 2023.
