Armouries appoints Edwards as DG
The CEO of Leeds’s Thackray Museum of Medicine, Nat Edwards, is to be the new Master of the Armouries and director general of the Royal Armouries.
He succeeds Edward Impey who has retired.
The Royal Armouries has sites at the Tower of London, Leeds and Fort Nelson in Hampshire.
Edwards has been at the Thackray Museum since 2018 and has overseen a £4m refurbishment there, having previously worked at the Science Museum, the National Library of Scotland, the National Trust for Scotland and Glasgow Museums in a 30-year career.
“The Armouries is one of the world’s oldest museums” he said “and over the years has witnessed through its buildings and collections, some of the most incredible stories – touching every aspect of our humanity at its best and at its worst.”
