Theatre school founder Anna Scher dies

Ann Scher, founder in 1968 of the drama school Anna Scher Theatre has died aged 78.

Dedicated to developing working class talent, her school uncovered and taught a host of future successful actors including Pauline Quirke, Kathy Burke, James Alexandrou and Phil Daniels. She was made an MBE in 2013.

“RIP magnificently mighty and wonderful Ann Scher” Burke said, and Alexandrou added, “I can’t overstate what a propound influence she had on my life. It’s a joyous realisation that I wouldn’t be sitting here without her.”
