Mary Archer’s ACE review suspended

The DCMS-ordered review of the Arts Council led by Mary Archer has been suspended because of the general election.

The full-scale review of ACE was ordered by culture secretary Lucy Frazer to see if the organisation was value for the £446m a year it disburses, to ascertain as to whether it is supporting high quality arts and culture effectively, examining issues of representation and access, diversity and the application process, and whether its grant could be cut by 5%. “This review will help ensure that Arts Council England is driving creative excellence in the arts by funding ambitious projects of the highest quality” Frazer said last month.

But whether the review, the first since 2017, goes ahead will now be decided by the new government.
