Berry for Bolshoi

John Berry, who stepped down as artistic director of ENO a year ago as the opera company was going through a series of financial and management crises, has been given a top new post at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

The Bolshoi, home of Russia’s national opera and ballet companies, underwent a major restoration between 2005 2011 costing an estimated £500m, and is seeking to reposition itself as an international culture centre.

Berry, who was at the Coliseum for ten years where he had built a network of overseas co-production partners, is expected to be in charge of brokering collaborations around the world.
