V&A poaches new comms chief from BBC

The Victorian & Albert Museum has recruited Sophie Brendel, head of digital communications at the BBC since 2009, as its new director of marketing and communications.

The newly created post will cover marketing, press, PR and brand management and is part of the museum’s senior management team. Previous to the BBC Brendel had worked for Thomas Reuters in New York and London leading PR strategy.

She joins the V&A, which recently won the Art Fund Museum of the Year award, in its most successful year for visitor numbers, with more major developments in the offing, including the opening of a new Exhibition Road entrance, gallery and courtyard, the V&A Museum of Design, in Dundee, and V&A East in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London.
