Beryl Cook exceeds targets for Plymouth’s Box
Beryl Cook: Pride and Joy, which celebrated the centenary of the birth of the Plymouth-born artist, exceeded its visitor target by almost 30,000, The Box announced today.
The Plymouth museum, gallery and archive welcomed 104,000 visitors to the exhibition's four-month run by the time it closed at the end of May, exceeding its target of 75,000 .
The exhibition, which celebrated the life and work of Beryl Cook, drew visitors from the UK, France and the United States and was the most successful show staged at the Box since it reopened after a remake in 2020.
The Box has been shortlisted for the Art Fund Museum of the Year Award, the first prize for which is £120,000, alongside the National Gallery, the Fitzwilliam, the V&A East Storehouse and Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery. The winner will be announced on June 25.
